Let’s Trade: A Different Way to Get What We Need

I’ve always loved how generosity unlocks things that money can’t. Years ago, I realized I could get way nicer things from Craigslist Free Stuff than I could ever afford to buy. Not because people were getting rid of junk, but because when we step outside of business-as-usual, we tap into something deeper—creativity, abundance, and a way of taking care of each other that just feels better.

This list is my way of making that easy: everything I can offer, everything I need. Some things we can trade. Some things we can gift. Some things we can pay for. The point is, we get to decide together what makes the most sense.

Why?

  • Giving and receiving feels amazing – Knowing your skills made someone’s life better is priceless.
  • Not everything has to be a business – Get something you can’t buy by giving something you can’t sell.

  • Custom Woven Pieces: I’m a weaver, so I can gift a handwoven thing or create a custom piece for your altar or the altar of your body with ritual and intention (a big exchange, this one takes many hours over weeks or months)
  • Kusudama Ornaments: Beautiful, hand-crafted paper ornaments, perfect for decoration or gifts
  • Harmonies for Your Music: If you’re a musician and need some backing vocals, I can sing harmonies for you

Physical & Local Offerings

  • Fresh Homegrown Seasonal Fruit: oranges usually, lemons sometimes, apples and figs when in season
  • Space for Small Gatherings: I can offer my living room or yard in Oakland for small events or gatherings
  • An Amazing Bath: I have an outdoor bathtub in my garden under a giant trellis of jasmine that is deep and warm and visually private from the neighbors. It can be your solo relaxation, retreat, or ritual space.

Yard & Outdoor Planning

I have an amazing yard that needs some help. I could use a space planner to help me make decisions on layout and design, skillful pruning to help my trees thrive, and gardening and landscaping to make it gorgeous (plant dahlias everywhere!)

Clothes Makeover

I am deeply committed to an all-pajamas-all-the-time level of comfort, but I don’t want to look like a schlub. Are you a queer fashionista eager to have your way with me and my closet so that I can effortlessly be comfortable, elegant, and fabulous on the daily?

Hair Help

Are you a queer hairstylist ready to help me fully inhabit my forties with joy? I need a new hair situation.

Kitchen Projects

I hate the color of my granite countertop. I hear one can paint them, but also that it’s hard to do well (and smelly.) Is this a skill you have?

My partner runs a popup Bull+Dagger BBQ out of our house. We need to upgrade the outdoor kitchen and make the laundry room shed kitchenier. Can you help with that?

Voice Lessons

I had sinus surgery recently and my voice works differently than it used to. I’d love a vocal coach to help me build my singing skills while using that process to move me toward self-actualization.

Meal Planning

The bane of my existence. I need a way to eat nutritiously while spending minimal spoons on the process of making that happen. Meals, strategies, or systems would all be helpful.

I live with pain I can’t avoid. Massage helps me avoid the pain I can.

I’m pretty handy but there’s always more to do than I have spoons for. Do you know how to replace rotting shingles? Plaster a room with natural clay? Build basic cabinetry? Put in a door?
